Sevilla Travel Tips
Our first trip to Sevilla was a total disaster. We tried to squeeze it into a summer day trip from Malaga, mistake number one.
Weather
Sevilla gets extremely hot in summer (think 104°F+)
Walking around in triple-digit heat is exhausting and unenjoyable
If visiting June–September:
Sightsee early morning or after sunset
Embrace siesta (2–4pm)
Stay hydrated
Wear a hat and sunscreen
Best time to visit Sevilla is in the spring or fall
February was perfect, sunny, comfortable, beautiful
River cruises won’t cool you off in summer — save them for evening
Book attraction tickets as soon as you book your flight
Reserve in advance for:
Real Alcázar of Seville
Seville Cathedral & Giralda Tower
Setas de Seville has a nightly 10pm light show
No two nights are the same
Buy viewing platform tickets in advance
Book a flamenco show ahead of time
Best photography spots:
Plaza de España at sunset
Guadalquivir River at sunset
What to Wear in Sevilla
Pack based on season
For churches: dress modestly (covered shoulders, no short shorts)
Spring/fall evenings: bring a light jacket
Summer: breathable fabrics (linen, cotton), hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
Wear comfortable walking shoes (cobblestones everywhere)
Getting Around Sevilla
Airport to city center: taxi (fixed price, 15–20 minutes)
City center is very walkable
Most attractions are close together
Do not drive in Old Town
Rent a car after exploring Sevilla
100+ miles of bike lanes — great city for cycling
Safety in Sevilla
Sevilla is overall very safe
Watch for pickpockets in crowded areas
Keep valuables secure
Don’t leave your phone on the table
Don’t stash wallets in coats on chairs
Stick to well-lit streets at night
A little awareness goes a long way
Sevilla is a wonderful city, which is best enjoyed slowly.
