WINCHESTER 2 DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1

Morning

Start your trip with a visit to the magnificent Winchester Cathedral. Explore its impressive nave, medieval architecture, and crypt. Don’t miss Jane Austen’s grave and the museum.

Around the cathedral is a peaceful green space and its very close to the high street so you can grab a pub lunch from one of the many historic pubs in the area.

Afternoon

Begin the afternoon by exploring The Great Hall & King Arthur’s Round Table, before visiting the Westgate museum, which offers great views over the High Street.

Finally, if you have time visit the Winchester City Museum.

In the evening enjoy a beautiful walk along the River Itchen. Take some time to enjoy a pint or two outside in the pub garden while enjoying views of old mills and bridges. On your way there you will pass Abbey Gardens, which are truly stunning, alongside the famous statue of Alfred the Great.

If you are only here for one day, be assured you have hit the highlights of Winchester, but if you do have more time there is even more to enjoy.

DAY 2

Wander the atmospheric ruins of Wolvesey Castle, with its once-grand bishop’s residence, just a short walk from the cathedral. After this visit Pilgrim’s Hall, which is adjacent to the Cathedral Close, this is the oldest surviving hammer-beamed building in England — a quiet hidden gem.
